چکیده

Engine noise is mainly from exhaust noise. Without adding muffler, at a certain speed, the noise up to 100 decibels. Reduce engine exhaust noise, and to high-temperature exhaust gas can be safely and effectively. Muffler as part of exhaust pipe, should ensure that the exhaust flow, resistance and sufficient strength. This research takes an exhaust silencer as a study object, and a muffler sound field model is established by using the finite element pre-processing software Hypermesh. According to the finite element analysis of acoustics and fluid, silencer acoustic performances are analyzed and the muffler transmission loss is calculated. Through the improvement of the first cavity, the transmission loss is compared with the original structure. The results clearly reflect muffler sound field conditions, and provide a basis for the muffler’s improving and optimal design. Modeling and simulation of the acoustic behavior of a muffler in a passenger car exhaust system

Muffler is one of the main components of an automotive exhaust system, which reduces the noise of the exhaust system. In this paper, modeling and simulation of the acoustic behavior of a muffler is presented with the aid of  an engineering software. For this purpose, firstly, an analytical model is presented to evaluate the sound transmission loss in cylindrical shells based on Sander's theory....

Acoustic Characterization of an Engine Exhaust Source – a Review

For an engine running at a constant speed (RPM), the exhaust process and intake process are periodic. This enables use of the frequency-domain analysis of the essentially linear exhaust system consisting of the exhaust runners, manifold, exhaust pipe, the muffler proper and the tail pipe. Over the last forty years, transfer matrices have been derived for use with aeroacoustic state variables as...

Cfd Investigation on the Three-dimensional Flow Characteristics of Pulsating Exhaust Gas inside the Muffler

Design of muffler system strongly influences engine efficiency and noise level. Hence, comprehension of flow characteristics inside muffler system is very important. In this study, numerical study of three-dimensional steady and unsteady compressible flow inside muffler system attached to 4-cylinder engine was performed to identify the flow characteristics. To obtain the boundary conditions for...

A Correlation Study of Computational Techniques of a Three-pass Perforated Tube Muffler including Bem and 1d Methods

Automotive exhaust systems give a major contribution to the sound quality of a vehicle and must be properly designed in order to produce acceptable acoustic performances. Obviously, noise attenuation is strictly related to the internal gas-dynamic field that, on the other hand, needs to be optimised also in terms of pressure losses. In this work, the noise attenuation characteristics of a perfo...

Perforated Muffler Manifold Catalyst

An alternative exhaust manifold system, the Perforated Manifold, Muffler, and Catalyst (PMMC), is proposed to improve sound suppression while reducing engine pumping losses and exhaust emissions. One-dimensional predictions from acoustic theory are used to configure the initial design. Preliminary evaluation of the concept is based on bench tests, including an extended impedance tube set-up for...
